Amid concerns over crew mental health issues arising on the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been adrift off the coast of Iran for an extended period, it was belatedly revealed that a sailor had fallen into the sea earlier this year. According to U.S. officials and a Lincoln sailor, CNN reported on the 14th that a sailor fell into the sea and was rescued on April 12 aboard the destroyer USS Frank E. Peterson Jr., part of the carrier strike group. The sailor was transferred to the Lincoln for treatment and then moved to another vessel for further care. CNN added that it has not been confirmed whether he jumped into the water voluntarily or if it was a simple accidental fall, and that it had inquired with the U.S. Navy and Central Command but has not yet received a response. This marks the second suspicious incident involving the USS Lincoln task force in recent months. Claims are growing that the USS Lincoln, which has been at sea for nine months since leaving its home port of San Diego last November, is facing serious mental health issues among its crew due to low morale and poor working conditions. CNN had previously reported the day before that a sailor jumped into the sea from the USS Lincoln on the 3rd. While the exact reason for the suicide was not disclosed, the sailor was safely rescued. A sailor who witnessed the incident on the USS Lincoln claimed that he “witnessed with his own eyes him running and jumping” during the incident on the 3rd. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth refuted these reports, calling them a “complete distortion of the facts” and stating, “We ensure that every ship, every crew member, and every captain has everything we can provide at every moment.”
