The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced on April 17 that service will be increased on 16 bus routes across four boroughs\u2014Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island\u2014beginning June 29. The MTA stated, \u201cWe expect this increase in service to significantly reduce commuting times and bus waiting times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Queens, service will be expanded on several heavily used routes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Q13 (Flushing\u2013Fort Totten)<\/li>\n<li>Q28 (Flushing\u2013Bayside)<\/li>\n<li>Q66 (Flushing\u2013Long Island City)<\/li>\n<li>Q69 (Long Island City\u2013Astoria)<\/li>\n<li>Q35 (Rockaway\u2013Midwood)<\/li>\n<li>Q43 (Jamaica\u2013Floral Park)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many of these lines are popular among Korean residents and other local communities.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn routes with expanded service include B17, B26, B74, and B103. In the Bronx, service will increase on the Bx10, Bx17, Bx23, and the combined Bx28\/38 routes. Staten Island will see improvements on the S46\/96 and the S79 Select Bus Service.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA also noted that express bus routes already began operating with increased service as of March 30. This includes eight routes overall\u2014one in Brooklyn, two in the Bronx, four in Staten Island, and one in Queens (QM15: Lynnwood\u2013Cross Bay Blvd\u2013Woodhaven Blvd\u2013Manhattan Midtown).<\/p>\n<p>Queens Borough President Donovan Richards highlighted the importance of this move, noting, \u201cIn the case of Queens, more than 800,000 residents use MTA bus service every day to get to work, school, and home.\u201d He also emphasized that Queens will soon see the launch of newly reorganized bus routes for the first time since the 1950s, further modernizing the borough\u2019s transit infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>This service expansion is being supported by $8 million in funding from the &#8220;Outer Borough Transportation Improvement Account,&#8221; a fund established by the New York State Assembly in 2018 to enhance public transportation in the city\u2019s outer boroughs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Starting this summer, commuters in New York City can expect improved bus service on several key routes, including those in Queens between Flushing and Bayside.
